Willard Li

Willard’s primary focus is on handling legal issues arising out of the breakdown of marriages and relationships between married and unmarried couples, such as divorce, separation, child custody and care arrangements, child relocation, financial disputes, asset division and maintenance.

He advises on all aspects of matrimonial law, including prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, anti-molestation and financial injunction applications, and has handled cases involving jurisdictional issues and cross-jurisdictional divorces.

In addition to contentious cases, Willard has successfully negotiated complex financial settlements where the family net worth was HK$1.7 billion and featured ESOP interests of a company preparing for an IPO. He has also handled cases requiring expert valuation of assets and where assets are located in multiple jurisdictions and held by third parties, trusts and private companies.

Willard regularly works with various barristers in Hong Kong and other professionals, such as child psychologists and therapists, forensic accountants, company valuation experts, property valuation experts, and lawyers in other jurisdictions such as UK, USA, Canada, PRC, Australia and Taiwan.

In addition to litigating complex and contested cases, Willard has handled consensual divorces and settled disputes through mediation and negotiations. Willard is also a Collaborative Law practitioner as a member of the Hong Kong Collaborative Practice Group.

Willard practised as a Barrister for a number of years before joining Haldanes in 2014 to focus on matrimonial law.
